Francis Kasaila has officially resigned from his position as a commissioner of the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), effective April 23,2025. The resignation was confirmed in a statement signed by MEC’s director of media and public relations, Sangwani Mwafulirwa, citing personal grounds for his departure.
Following Kasaila’s resignation, the commission now consists of five members along with the chairperson. The statement reassured the public that this composition remains within the legal threshold for a quorum, as the law mandates at least four commissioners to conduct official business.
In addition to his resignation, it has been reported that Kasaila is seeking a parliamentary seat in the Nsanje Central constituency on the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) ticket.
