Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera has announced a plan to create 3 million jobs over the next five years, with the goal of addressing unemployment among the country’s youth. According to Chakwera, the plan will begin in September and will run until August 2030.
Speaking during the 109th Congregation of the University of Malawi (Unima) at the Great Hall in Zomba on Wednesday, Chakwera stated that the new graduates present will be among the beneficiaries of this plan. He emphasized that the country’s young people have been prepared to contribute to building a more productive Malawi, with a focus on agriculture, tourism, and mining, as outlined in the country’s Agricultural Transformation and Modernization (ATM) strategy.
The President expressed confidence that the new graduates understand their role in helping to achieve the goals of the ATM strategy. The plan aims to transform Malawi into a more productive country, with a strong focus on key sectors such as agriculture, tourism, and mining.
